Does The Fruta Vida Drink Really Work?

I was introduced to the health drink Fruta Vida through an e-mail that I didn’t request (spam) but that really caught my attention. It said that if I was to drink this drink called “Fruta Vida” that it would be a kind of a fountain of youth and that it had enough vitamins and minerals in it to really give me the energy I needed to face my 20 students a day at the public school where I teach.

The e-mail was so-well orchestrated I had to investigate further. I started to read through the testimonials. “I’ve lost 20 pounds without diet or exercise. I feel better than I have for twenty years. The hair on my head has actually got it’s color again.”
And on and on and on…

At this point I’ve got to try it. Hey, I’m reaching 40 years of age, and I want all of my internal parts to continue to receive the nutrients they so much need, and I want to stay looking young and fit!

Needless to say, a week later, a small box arrived at my front door, via UPS, and I popped open my first bottle of Fruta Vida! The directions say I can take one to two onces, so I take one, and within a few days, I notice barely anything. I did notice though that some of the aches and pains of muscles and body aches were lessening.

So, I said to myself, “Why not try taking 2.5 ounces? The bottle says I can try up to 3! So, I’m not kidding, starting that night or the following day, I was impressed with the positive effects. I had more energy during the day, I had almost no aches and pains from muscles and body aches, and then one other awesome thing happened.

The Acai Berry is being promoted as a super fruit and with good reason. Acai Berries are considered one of the richest fruit sources of antioxidants.

Healthy Dark Chocolate and Your Diabetic Health — Part 2

In part 1 of this 2 part series exploring the potential health benefits of organic dark chocolate for the current or pre-diabetic, we focused on the very high concentrations of ‘flavanols’ in cocoa and their positive effect for a healthy cardiovascular system. We will now look at several specific studies and their results relating to diabetes control.

By introducing a consistent, high quality source of the flavanols found in dark chocolate, insulin function is improved, blood sugar is better controlled, blood pressure is lowered, and the threat of blood sugar build up and pre-diabetes is lessened.

A recent study at the University of L’Aquila in Italy confirmed these vascular effects. Over a 15 day period, 15 healthy test subjects were given 100g of a typical dark chocolate, (with 500 mg of flavonoids), and 15 others were given 100g of white chocolate (which has NO measurable flavonoids).

After a 7 day washout period following the first test, the groups were reversed and tested for another 15 days. At the end of each period, oral glucose tolerance tests were performed to calculate the insulin resistance and the quantitative insulin sensitivity. Systolic blood pressure was also checked.

Davide Grassi published the results in the “American Journal of Clinical Nutrition”:

“Dark, but not white, chocolate decreases blood pressure and improves insulin sensitivity in healthy persons.”

“Nitric oxide bioavailability deeply influences insulin-stimulated glucose uptake and vascular tone.”

“These findings indicate that dark chocolate may exert a protective action on the vascular endothelium also by improving insulin sensitivity”.

Obesity is a known risk factor for insulin resistance. Cocoa powder (the origin of dark chocolate) has been proven to be an effective appetite suppressant. A check of the ingredients on the label of many of the popular diet supplements will list cocoa powder high on the list.

So, a portion of good quality dark chocolate before a meal will not only provide your vascular system with a needed antioxidant boost, but you may also gain benefit against the ‘battle of the bulge’.

Another healthy dark chocolate fact for diabetics is the type of fat contained in cocoa.

Two thirds of the fats in dark chocolate are ‘heart healthy’. A study published in “Free Radical Biology Medicine” found that dark chocolate “actually increased HDL (good cholesterol) concentrations and reduced the oxidation of the total cholesterol”.

Recently, many people have ask what supplements am I familiar with, that not only promote good health, but also vitality and increase energy throughout the day. As a layman, I am not educated as a medical practitioner but do try to keep current with today’s trends and discoveries.

Super foods are full of anti-oxidants, vitamins and minerals but they also contain amino acids, which are the basic structural building blocks of proteins. Proteins make up the bulk of all your cells structure. They also act as enzymes for cellular reactions.

There are eight essential amino acids they are:

#1 = Tryptophan which reduces anxiety and depression, helps with migraines, helps the immune system, reduces heart spasms, it is also a natural relaxant and aids in normal sleep, taken with Lysine it reduces cholesterol levels in the blood.

If you go to Google and type in super foods, you will find several sights, all telling you about the same thing, that eating a natural diet will protect you from several diseases and illnesses. This is true for most foods, there are however exceptions and they are; Wild salmon, tomatoes, broccoli and broccoli sprouts, kale, spinach, garlic, onions, blueberries, walnuts, pomegranates, depending how and where they are grown, then there’s goji berries, mulberries, golden berries, sauco berries, acai berries, noni fruit, mangosteen fruit, bee pollen, royal jelly, green tea, sea vegetables, quinoa, and umeboshi plum.

Sea vegetables are true super foods, they contain significant amounts of protein and they also contain all the minerals found in the ocean. They offer 10 to 20 times the vitamins and minerals found in plants grown on land with just a few exceptions. There is a reason for this; we, as a population, have depleted our soils of the necessary nutrients that plants absorb. We also use chemicals and pesticides on our crops, these chemicals and pesticides are non-selective and destroy everything even the micro bacteria and micro fungi that is digested by the plants. When you purchase an apple from the store it is usually lacking most of the minerals that the soil once provided, minerals that are essential to our health. This is not true for the sea vegetables, the ocean is still productive, we have yet to destroy it and therefore it is a rich source for your health. Kelp, blue-green algae, spirulina, chorella, dulse, alaria, sea lettuce, irish moss, kombu, wakame, and nori are all rich in vitamins, minerals and all the essential amino acids.

Some fruits that are grown wild in other parts of the world are also true super foods and are still rich in nutrients because the soils are not depleted. If you are already suffering with a disease or illness or you’re prone to certain diseases or illness, due to family history, then there are a few things you need to know. There are some terms you need to understand before we continue:
